European Digital Credentials are secure digital documents that describe a person’s learning achievements, qualifications, activities, assessments, and professional entitlements. These credentials can be stored in a Europass wallet, easily shared with employers or institutions, and automatically verified for authenticity and validity.

International Principles and Standards for the Practice of Ecological Restoration, 2nd Edition (SER Standards) is a must read for those interested in learning more about how to do the work of ecological restoration and which aspects are relevant for successful project outcomes.

Educational resources available on the Digital Ecological Restoration Toolbox (DERTO) are compliant with the SER Standards. 

Standards are available in multiple languages, including: English, Chinese, French, Spanish, Ukrainian, Portuguese, Hungarian and Korean.

The FAO elearning Academy is a free, multilingual online learning platform offering hundreds of self-paced, certified courses, with many related to ecological restoration, forest and landscape restoration, biodiversity conservation, agroecology, and more!

Courses are available globally in multiple languages and cover 25 thematic areas, supporting capacity-building for professionals, students and policymakers under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

G20 Global Land Initiative “University Courses” offers open-access, transdisciplinary course kits on sustainable agriculture for land restoration and sustainable urban land restoration — designed for university educators. 

Each course includes about 48 contact hours (≈ 3 ECTS), with modular lecture slides, readings, case studies and exercises, ready to integrate into bachelor’s, master’s or PhD programmes. 

The goal is to build capacity worldwide — equipping future professionals with knowledge and tools to prevent, halt and reverse land degradation, supporting G20’s aim to halve degraded land by 2040. 

The MERLIN “Knowledge Centre” is an open online repository gathering guidance documents, scientific studies, reports, tools, videos, and courses — focused on freshwater and wetland restoration, nature-based solutions, ecosystem services, biodiversity, and environmental governance across Europe.

It’s designed for a wide audience: policymakers, NGOs, water managers, conservationists, and citizens — offering filtering by resource type, scale (local to continental), topic (rivers, peatlands, climate, restoration, etc.), and language.

The centre supports knowledge sharing on the 18 flagship restoration case-studies of MERLIN, as well as practical guidance (e.g., cost–benefit analyses, water-resilient farming, citizen-science stream monitoring) and training via the MERLIN Academy. 

It also links to the Learning Environment, which provides three different modules featuring short videos by a variety of experts, written material, and quizzes to test the knowledge acquired.

EcoAdvance works to accelerate freshwater-ecosystem restoration across Europe by identifying — and sharing — what actually makes restoration projects succeed. 

It compiles a searchable library of “success stories” — people, projects, practices — and uses them to build a practical “Prone2Success Checklist,” helping decision-makers navigate complexity, allocate resources wisely and replicate effective freshwater restoration solutions. 

Ecology for All! is an open‑access, modular, introduction to ecology textbook covering many levels — from individual organisms to ecosystems. 

It covers topics such as ecological interactions, population dynamics, biodiversity, conservation, ecosystem processes, species evolution, and human impacts on the environment — offering a comprehensive foundation in ecological science. 

Its modular structure lets educators pick relevant chapters (e.g. community ecology, landscape ecology, conservation biology) to suit their course needs, making it adaptable for diverse teaching or learning contexts. 

Video sessions covering hands-on guidance with the Marine Restoration Toolbox and Virtual Lab, the UN Decade Principles for Ecosystem Restoration, and insights from Arctic–Atlantic Lighthouse Mission Ocean restoration initiatives.

Held in Dublin in September 2025 in collaboration with the CLIMAREST project, this two-day training brought together 23 restoration practitioners, researchers, and local authorities from across Europe.
