Permanent Field Margins
In October 2010 and April 2011, species-poor grass margins were restored by destroying the grass sward and sowing of 49 wild plants from regional seed propagation. The sites are mown stepwise once a year, with biomass removal – either in mid-May, mid-June or mid-September. This provides pollen and nectar throughout the growing season.
After 15 years, almost all sown species are still present on the sites, and the flower-rich vegetation supports many beneficial insects. The VR tour shows the 15-year-old field margin in different seasons, including information on restoration, management and important ecosystem services.
